4. Awakening the Senses - Gestures of Love

Even the truest love can die in the heart if it is not nurtured; for love isn't something you find, it's something you develop. Living lovingly is a choice that takes a commitment of time and attention. The following gestures of love are ideas for growing in love:

• Develop a theme for dinner and the evening where clothing, food, accessories, and music create an unusual and imaginative playground.

• Visit a farmers market or roadside stand and delight in the sensual experience. Gather fresh vegetables and create a wounderful soup for supper.

• Structure silent time into your daily routine. Slow down and carefully observe your surroundings for several minutes. Close your eyes and take a deep breath before returning to your busy schedule.

• Take a course together. Consider gardening, art, cooking, dancing, or massage.

• Remember a favorite childhood song and sing it to your partner.

• Meditatively take ten minutes to eat a ripe, juicy, fresh peach.

• List at least ten sensuous treats you would like to receive. Ask your partner to do the same. Post the lists inside your medicine cabinet door.

• Surprise your partner with a foot massage. You may wish to use scented lotion. Consider sandlewood, amber, or china musk.
